Everything has its reward later.. The photo was taken by KEVIN CARTER, as part of a project he went to do in Sudan. The picture shows us a bird (Vulture) in the corner, waiting for the child to die so that it can eat the carcass.
The story grew like this in 1993 Kevin Calter traveled to Sudan to the village called Ayod. While on the way, he saw a child resting after walking a long way to the United Nations feeding center. Before he took a picture, he saw the bird, Kevin hid somewhere for about twenty (20) minutes so that the bird wouldn’t hear that someone was coming and run away for him not to miss the picture. The goal of hiding all that time was waiting for the bird to get closer to the Child so that he could capture his picture.
Later he managed to take his picture, and continued his journey. The picture went viral and started getting different opinions than what he was thinking.
The PETERSBURG TIMES newspaper in FLORIDA wrote that, “The person who took this picture also has an animalistic spirit because instead of chasing the bird not to destroy hungry child, he was busy taking pictures”.
Kevin explained that, when he was assigned to do that project, he was given instructions not to hold anything he would meet on the way so as not to encounter diseases. Although he later showed regret for not taking any action to save the child.
In 1994, Kevin Calter won a prize in a competition for pictures that are scary/sad just because of this picture. However, in the same year, Kevin Calter, at the age of 33, committed suicide due to mental stress. It is said that this was not the first time he had taken pictures of this kind.
In the past he had taken several pictures of people being killed, injured and even taking pictures of dead bodies as part of his work as a Journalist/Photographer. After he committed suicide, they found that he had left a note explaining how the memories of those pictures made him lose joy in his life every time he remembered and then decided to commit suicide.
This story teaches and shows us how people these days have started doing acts that are animalistic. Instead of saving someone, one grabs the phone to start taking pictures so that he has a memory in his phone or computer.
Recently, in Entebbe on Nabinoonya beach, a couple had gone to enjoy life in that same area. Suddenly, an eleven-year-old boy was seen screaming and drowning in the water. Other people who had the ability to save him did not hesitate but started capturing pictures the child drowning and dying.
What are you learning? Help your fellow because life is meaningless and these are animalistic actions.
Thank you very much
